At Empower we believe that how we experience life is intrinsically connected to how we think.  You have probably heard this quote by Henry Ford: “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t–you’re right.”  And this saying speaks to the essence of the importance of MINDSET.

We encourage our clients to adopt an opportunity-focused mindset – a mindset prepared to thrive rather than just survive. Our Empower Team has all personally experienced the power of positive thinking and we have seen it impact the lives of our clients in huge ways.  This is why our ThinkFUN, Get Fit, Eat Well, Sleep Well model starts with mindset.  To us, ThinkFUN is a way of thinking where life is approached as a series of expeditions – opportunities to see even the day-to-day tasks we do as a chance to explore the world around us.  It is amazing what happens when you believe that the world is full of opportunities for you to engage in, learn from  . . . experience.

Another part of ThinkFUN . . . is all about the FUN!  As adults we sometimes get so caught up in all of our responsibilities that we forget to make time to PLAY and have FUN!  Empower is about to change that for you!

Your Empower workouts will be different each time and will include some aspect of FUN.  We want to change your expectation that fitness is too much like work . . . and make your workout one of the best parts of your day.

All you need to do is open your mind to new possibilities so that you can grow Stronger, Healthier, Happier!

Here are 14 ways that you can ThinkFUN:

  • Take a cooking class, try a new recipe, or a new way of cooking.
  • Practice loving kindness – Try performing 1 act of kindness every day for 1 week.
  • Skip work for a day or maybe just an hour and volunteer somewhere that matters to you – your child’s school, the APS, The Food Bank, etc.
  • Try journalizing – find a notebook and write whatever comes to mind in a stream of consciousness style for 20 minutes. Try to place no judgment on your thoughts, your spelling, your grammar and just write from your heart. Journal about your deepest feelings – deeps fears, deepest desires, deepest loves.
  • Plan your dream vacation. Even if you can’t take this trip this year – start dreaming about it, researching it, organizing it. Karma can work in amazing ways.
  • Take the time and learn about a different culture or religion.
  • Pretend to be a tourist in your own town or city and explore new places that may be out of your norm or comfort zone.
  • Change up your morning routine. Try putting all electronic devices in another room overnight and refrain from checking email, social media, news, etc. first thing. Try to start your day with just 3 minutes of stillness, breathing, prayer, reflection or visualization. Also add 5 minutes (or more) of exercise. Try jumping jacks, body weight squats, or a few sun salutations to get the blood flowing.
  • Have an impromptu dance party. Jam out to your favorite tunes and dance and sing around the house.
  • Be more instinctive and less calculated. If something resonates with you – jump in and just do it.
  • Find ways to add variety to your workout. If you always workout indoors, take it outside. If you only lift weights, do some cardio exercise. Go to an indoor trampoline park and jump with your kids. Shoot some hoops or take a swim. Even if you feel that you are not very good at an activity, do it anyway to add some variety to your life.
  • Try out one new restaurant every month.
  • Do that one big thing your inner voice is telling you to do. Is there one big action that you’ve been too afraid to take on that could turn your life from comfortable and safe to absolutely AMAZING? Maybe it’s a job change, a move, a simple change of scenery, or maybe a new relationship. Whatever it is, take the first step. Action creates momentum, and momentum builds excitement.
