Recently I was talking to someone about diets and how many of them have similar recommendations but for some reason many people go through diet after diet without success. Then he said something to me that caused a light bulb to go off in my head.

“Everyone knows how to lose weight, the problem is having the willpower to make the right decisions.”

It’s amazing that such a simple concept hit me in that way but it makes sense. Everyone knows that an apple is a better choice than Doritos and going for a two hour hike is better than sitting on your couch. However, I continually find myself explaining minor details to people that they already know.

The time has come for a change my friends and I feel that one word sums it up pretty well: discipline.

It doesn’t matter what diet you choose or how you implement it. Talk to ten different people that have lost weight at some point in their life and chances are they did it ten different ways.

When I was in high school I lost about 30 pounds in six months without ever recording anything. I met a girl I liked which provided the motivation and got fed up with being chubby and started running every day. I didn’t watch what I ate but never had more than one portion of any meal and never snacked. My mom’s strategy is to count calories when she needs to drop a pound or two. She has a small notebook with which she simply writes down everything she puts in her mouth every day along with the caloric content.

These are two very different methods of losing weight but both are effective. The common denominator? The discipline to follow through with the plan.

Are you someone who could stand to lose a couple of pounds? Are you ready to start? Good!

1. Meet with a nutritionist or read a diet book (there are about 252456 out there) and follow the plan exactly according to the recommendations.

2. Find a personal trainer or read a fitness book (there are about 235246272476 out there) and follow that plan exactly according to the recommendations.

That’s it! You don’t need a magic pill or a shake-weight. Don’t get me wrong, it’s going to be hard at times but keep that D word in the back of your mind at all times and stick with the plan!

Results guaranteed or your money back! 🙂
