EMPOWER Client of the Month – Kate Call

September’s client of the month is Kate Call, from the EMPOWER Durham location! After hearing of Dan Shattuck’s, our previous CotM, rise to fame, Kate went in a more humble direction. We were just able to get a few questions in about her fitness journey at Empower as she was walking down the red carpet that her limo chauffeur had laid down for her at the front entrance of the studio. We could hardly hear her responses over the commotion being caused by the hordes of flapping wings of the hundreds of doves that had been uncaged as her limo door was opened, but what we managed to get is down below. In all seriousness, congratulations Kate! Your hard work and dedication has been noted and we’re proud to call you our Client of the Month!

Q: How long have you been working out at EMPOWER?

Kate: Since April of 2013.

Q: What are your health/fitness goals?

Kate: My overall goal is just to be healthy and have fun.  I’m a breast cancer survivor and there is research that indicates that a healthy and active lifestyle decrease the likelihood of recurrence.  Lately, we have been incorporating some strength goals which has been a fun challenge.

Q: What is your favorite class/style of training session? Why?

Kate: Anything and everything that Angelo can dream up.  He seems to have a limitless imagination when it comes to training sessions and I’m willing to try anything.  A session with Angelo is always a good mix of functional exercise, strength training, and there is always a lot of laughter.

Q: Angelo, what is your favorite part of working with Kate?

Angelo: That I consider her more a friend than a client.  Our sessions are more like “hang outs” in that we laugh at each other, make fun of each other, encourage one another and lift a bunch of heavy stuff.  I’ve made a lifelong friend by us being paired together.

Q: What goals/progress has Kate made since starting at EMPOWER?

Kate: She’s lost nearly 30lbs of body fat.  We’ve recently hit a personal record for her as she achieved a barbell back squat with her body weight loaded on the bar for 10 reps.  She also accomplished the same feat for dead lift.  Her running technique and cardiovascular endurance has improved dramatically.  We’ve still got a ways to go in the sassiness department but at least it gives us something to continually work on!
