Did you know you could get a cold in the summer? Have you had a cold and wanted to know how to knock it fast? Have you wondered what foods to eat and how to get good nutrition while feeling under the weather?

Our Chief Fun Officer Amanda would like to share her personal story:

“Last Wednesday I woke up with a sore throat. The day went down hill from there. In the middle of the night I cancelled my trip to Nashville with my two girlfriends that was supposed to be that weekend starting Thursday night. A trip that I’ve talked about for years and couldn’t wait to experience.

I’m a pretty healthy person, and as a person who lives life on the go, I had just come off a weekend of rest and relaxation. I couldn’t believe I was getting sick.

Everyone knows when you’re sick you need to rest and hydrate. You typically eat soup and watch Netflix. I still had an appetite so I was able to also eat bananas, bread and some deli meat. I realized I needed more nutrition than that. I needed more protein and nutrients that I wasn’t getting. I had a packet of vanilla Shakeology and mixed that with some almond milk. Shakeology shakes have: essential amino acids, antioxidants, digestive enzymes, prebiotics, vitamins and minerals, and phytonutrients.  I was able to feed my body the nutrients it needed.

Shakeology
As healthy as a salad. Tastes like dessert.

The other thing that helped cure me was what I call flu shot. I’ve had this at Happy and Hale in Durham and wanted to recreate it. My roommate Kelsey and I mixed together (well mostly her, I was on the couch and couldn’t move) apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, honey, cayenne pepper, ginger and cinnamon. Not only did it taste pretty good but it definitely helped boost my immune system. (Secret- for night time shot add some bourbon to the mixture 🙂 )

I hope you don’t encounter a summer cold or cold anytime, but if you do, try these tips and get better soon!
