Dr. Charity Lackey
she/her
PhD, RN, BSN, RYT-200, IHWC
Charity is a doctorally prepared nurse scientist trained by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She brings her experiences as a bedside nurse, community organizer, and public health researcher to the yoga mat. She hopes to inspire honest and courageous dialogues about the importance of mental health, especially for young people. She trained as a yoga teacher with Lead with Compassion, a 200-hour training sponsored by the UNC School of Medicine’s program on Integrative Medicine. She is also an integrative health and wellness coach (IHWC) trained by the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, based in Tucson, Arizona. This informs her primary focus on self-care as the most important preventative behavior we can engage.
She has a wealth of experience teaching yoga to people of all ages from multiple ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds. Her approach to teaching yoga is best understood by her personal mantra: every experience with adversity is an opportunity for self-discovery, meaning, we discover new and sacred things about ourselves as we bump against difficulty and find ways to transcend these edges with community.
Outside of work she enjoys cooking, running, and spending time with loved ones.
