After 12 years of dabbling in yoga and 3 years of intentional practice and studying, I have come to appreciate yoga as an avenue to reconnect with my authentic self. The practice of yoga allows one to get out of the head and into the body. It’s a sanctuary for healing and releasing the struggles, stress, and wounds that we emotionally, physically, and spiritually experience in the normal course of life. I will lead you through the practice of Rasa yoga inspiring a stronger body, a softer heart, and a well-nourished soul. I love to blend rich themes with alignment cues and hands on adjustments while maintaining an uplifting and ever expansive heart-opening practice. My goal is for students to feel empowered and connected with their authentic self while melting away the stresses of the day. I look forward to sharing a sweet practice with you. Namaste <3

Erica Haney began her entrée into the fitness industry in 2005 as a martial arts instructor for both youth and adults. She loves working with people from all different backgrounds and with a variety of skill levels, tailoring her teaching to meet the uniqueness of each student. Her approach is to create a space where people feel supported to let go and explore new boundaries in their fitness and self-discovery. She likes to remind her students that the goal of yoga is not to achieve “perfection” but rather to be ok with our imperfections both on our mat (and in our lives). A consistent yoga practice gives us a chance for deep learning and self-reflection so that when we step off the mat we know how to move through our day with a little bit more grace, compassion, and joy.She blends her knowledge and experience to create a unique, vigorous and reflective approach to Vinyasa yoga that melds awareness with movement, breath, heart, and humor. Erica Haney joined the Empower Team in 2014.
Her burgeoning interest in yoga began during a massage training workshop in Thailand 2002. It wasn’t until 2009 that she began practicing yoga regularly at Franklin Street Yoga Center (FSYC) to find stress relief from graduate school and to complement her martial arts training. In 2014 in parallel with her dissertation completion, Erica enrolled and completed a 200 hour Baron Baptiste Vinyasa-style yoga teacher training at FSYC under the mentorship of Lori Burgwyn.
Erica recently completed her PhD in Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she also received her Masters in Public Health and BA in Anthropology with highest honors.
In her free time she likes to see live music, watch Carolina basketball, and play in the sunshine with her friends. She lives in Chapel Hill with her husband and her two rescue dogs. Erica is currently a consultant with FHI360 and will be taking a fixed-term faculty position for a undergraduate student abroad program this spring.
