John has 20+ years of experience working in the fitness industry, which has included working with a wide variety of fitness levels and health conditions, 7 years focused on weight loss for women, lecturing on a national level, and owning a fitness business for over 10 years. John realizes that the body works as a single unit to accomplish whatever task it sets out to do so our workouts should closely mimic the way the body functions on a daily basis.

Throughout his career, John has helped many clients reach their health and fitness goals, and he particularly likes working with men to get back on track with working out and eating better to increase energy, improve strength, and ultimately, get back the body they had in their younger years. In addition to creating well-programmed workouts for his clients he also builds accountability into his programs, helping clients form healthy habits and develop an overall lifestyle change.

John played a variety of sports through his childhood and began weight training in the 8th grade to further enhance is athletic skills. In high school, he narrowed his athletic interests to distance track events and cross-country. While in college, John competed in two amateur level bodybuilding competitions. In his professional career, John spent 3 years in corporate fitness, 6 years at the Duke Center For Living, and 10 years as a fitness business owner. John joined the Empower Personalized Fitness TEAM in early 2016.

John earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Exercise Physiology from West Virginia University. He is currently R-Phase certified through Z-Health Fitness Solutions and has held certifications from The American Council on Exercise and The National Strength and Conditioning Association.

In his spare time, John likes to spend time with his wife Lisa and his son Hunter. His outdoor passions include camping, hiking, white water rafting, and watching Hunter kick butt on the soccer field. John likes to cheer on his WVU Mountaineers and the Duke Blue Devils.
