Meet Rob King: Personal Trainer at EMPOWER Personalized Fitness Raleigh
First off I want to thank you for spending a little time with me and reading this blog. This is the first of what I hope to be many coming your way in the near future. Let me start off by telling you a little bit about myself…
WHO AM I?
Allow me to re-introduce myself…Oh wait! My name is Rob King. I have been a full time personal trainer for over two years. I have worked with a wide range of clients of various ages, ability, health conditions, and health goals. Throughout my time as a trainer, I have been exposed to multiple philosophies and techniques that have given me the ability to design and implement programming to meet the unique fitness goals of each individual client.
My personal training style is a bit different than most. First and foremost, I will NEVER put a client in any position or ask them to do any exercise that you are physically not ready or able to do. With that being said, we are still going to WORK! I believe that as human beings it’s vital that we are as strong as we possibly can be at all times; it’s how we have evolved to live (more explanation about this will come later). I am going to teach you how to become re-acquainted with your body. I’m not only going to teach you how to feel your body move through space, I am going to teach you proper mechanics how/why it’s important for your body to move correctly. The piece of equipment and weight selection we use in your training program are merely “tools”. Utilizing proper exercise mechanics and technique will greatly increase your ability to use said “tools” effectively. We will work together, talk about what your goals are, put together an effective plan, and it will take some hard work but we will begin the process to help you reach your goals safely and efficiently.
I joined the Empower Raleigh TEAM in October 2013. I firmly believe there is a tremendous amount of crossover between my own training ideals and the Empower vision. I am truly proud and excited to team up with Empower Raleigh and help people reach their health and wellness goals. In my blogs, I hope to give you information on my personal training philosophies and style, as well as information on new and current trends that are constantly evolving in the health and fitness world.
Perhaps the biggest similarity between my personal training philosophy and EMPOWER’s mission/vision is that we both firmly believe in and use a functional approach to personal training. “Functional Training” is a buzzword in the health and fitness industry right now. To us, most simply put, functional training means using multi-joint compound movements and moving through multiple planes of motion with full ranges of movement. Training in this manner produces greater results and has far more benefits than training using machines and single joint motions. Whether you’re training for cardiovascular fitness, strength endurance, power or simply to be more efficient at daily tasks, proper implementation of functional training can improve and benefit whatever your goals may be.
WHAT IS EMPOWER AND HOW WILL IT WORK FOR ME?
By now, I’m sure that you have at least seen the Empower Raleigh website and if not check it out at www.becomepowerful.com. Our vision is to Empower people and communities to live stronger, healthier, happier lives. I know, I know, straight from the website. But what does this mean for you? That’s a good question.
Let’s just be honest with each other and admit that few people always enjoy the mental and physical grind that comes with being in the “gym atmosphere”. Myself, as well as all of the members of the training staff here at Empower Raleigh strive to create an environment where people can feel comfortable, confident and have the ideal health and wellness experience. Whether you are training with me, another personal trainer or if you’re here to participate in a group fitness class, we are all here to support, motivate, and encourage ALL of our clients. I believe that when individuals have the ability to be comfortable and confident with their surrounding environment, that’s when they have the greatest ability to succeed. Having this type of environment in the health and fitness setting is vital. It’s what I like to refer to as the “Success Arena” and this is where you need to be to make it happen.
Also, at Empower, we strongly believe in the three pillars of health and lifestyle wellness that are physical exercise, whole foods balanced nutrition and stress management. We are here to not only to educate our clients but also to help them develop strategies and implement changes to achieve balance in all three areas of their lives. I know, I know, again, straight from the website. Again, what does this mean to you?
Exercise is only one part of the equation to lead a healthy life. Even in today’s day in age, with vast amounts of information readily available, nutrition is one of the most overlooked and often times misunderstood factors when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. Now, let me immediately state by no means am I a dietitian or a nutritionist. Lucky for you, at Empower Raleigh we have Registered Dietitians on staff. Nutrition is not only a vital part of any exercise program, (regardless of whatever your goals may be) more often than not it is the MOST important part of a program. I would highly recommend that you set aside some time and schedule an appointment with either our dietitian or nutritionist to get more information about how they may be able to assist you further in achieving your health and fitness goals.
Lastly, stress management…just because it is last doesn’t mean that it should be thought of as the least important or a non-integral part of your exercise program. It is extremely important to take into consideration when trying to accomplish your health and wellness goals. Full disclosure, this is an area that I seek to improve in as well. As human beings we all have areas that we need to improve and work on and I am no exception. But it needs to be understood that mental health and wellness is equally as important as physical. Here at Empower Raleigh, we have several services to help you achieve mental balance and help reduce/eliminate the stresses of daily life.
