This past weekend was a reminder of how hot it can be in North Carolina with the 90+ degree weather and oppressive humidity. There are inherent risks to exercising in the heat such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Be sure to take some precautions if you exercise during the summer.
– Wear loose, light colored clothing.
– Apply plenty of sunblock and reapply if swimming or sweating heavily. Try to stay in shaded areas.
– Limit outdoor activity during the peak hours of heat.
– Drink fluids such as water or Gatorade at least every 20 minutes. The more dehydrated you are the worse you will perform.
My final piece of advice for those looking to avoid overheating would be to find a cool, comfortable place such as the Empower studio! Call (919) 301-8024 to set up an appointment.
